Crumbling Roads In Small Towns Addressed with New Infrastructure Bill
As America’s infrastructure continues to undergo a massive overhaul, communities are quite literally noticing the cracks in the support for updating rural roads. Up until now, maintenance for interstate highways and other rural backroads have been minimal, leading to dangerous conditions such as no guardrails, rumble strips and High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST).
To help improve the priority level of these roads, the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) is working with local cities and municipalities to roll out various street repair jobs. Although only about 19 percent of America’s population live in rural communities, a recent federal study found that nearly half of all fatal crashes occur on rural roadways due to the lack of infrastructure support.
